REAL gastropub is truly the first REAL gastropub in Honolulu, Hawaii. Embracing the craft beer culture, we travelled throughout the Pacific Northwest, East and West Coast and visited numerous locations to capture the REAL essence and characteristics of a true gastropub. After searching for the ideal location in Honolulu for almost three years, REAL gastropub opened its doors on May 23, 2012 at the Ward Farmer’s Market. Due to commercial redevelopment, REAL closed its doors In September 2017. After a year a half of construction, we are pleased to now be in the vibrant, emerging epicenter for Hawaii’s urban island living in Kaka’ako that encompasses nine city blocks. Visitors and residents flock to the area daily to enjoy the sounds, tastes and sites of this thriving community. Located in a new 3,692 square foot space in Kaka’ako at Keauhou Lane on the corner of Keawe Street and Halekuwila Street. Minutes away from downtown, Ala Moana Center, Ala Moana Beach Park, Neal Blaisdell Center and Waikiki.
REAL gastropub is Hawaii’s first beer-centric pub dedicated to providing the largest and finest selection of high quality craft beers sourced from all corners of the world and the Hawaiian Islands featuring 38 constantly rotating taps which includes national and international beers and wine. A full bar consists of specialty craft cocktails. We also provide continuous culinary, beverage and service education for team members and customers.
REAL food is beer-centric, local, seasonal and freshly prepared focusing on innovative, quality driven, comfort cuisine. The menu has several core items, creative daily/weekly specials and evolves seasonally to showcase fresh and interesting products.
Dishes are served “tapa-style” so guests can sample a variety of creative dishes. Customers can enjoy a long list of pub-inspired grinds from Poutine to REAL’s infamous Candied Garlic Bacon while set in a warm, unpretentious atmosphere. Food and beverage service provided in the main dining area, 22 seat bar, 24 seat ”Dog House” by the brewery and outdoor seating.
Chef Lee Warnick will head the culinary team and is the Executive Chef at BREW’d craft pub in Kaimuki (REAL’s sister property). Chef Lee will oversee both restaurants.
Since opening the original REAL, it received two Gold Hale Aina Award (Honolulu Magazine) for Best Beer Program and Top Write-In Vote for Best Bar Food. Other accolades include Best Beer Bar in the state of Hawai’i from Thrillist.com, Business Insider/Foursquare, MSN, CrafteBeer.com and RateBeer.com. It has also won an Ilima Award (Honolulu Star-Advertiser), Reader’s Choice Award (Hawai’i Magazine), Hawaii’s Best (Honolulu Star-Advertiser) and Best of Honolulu (Honolulu Magazine).
